Joey Vincent joined the UChicago Master of Liberal Arts (MLA) to enhance his writing skills and hone in on his ability to communicate thoughts with coherence and accuracy. With 20 years of experience as a product manager and software developer, he has worked extensively with a variety of programming languages, including Java, T-SQL, JavaScript, and many others.
However, he felt a strong desire to deepen his intellectual pursuits and expand his education. Upon discovering the MLA program, Joey considered it an opportunity to develop a deeper capacity for analyzing diverse perspectives, enhancing his effectiveness as a leader, and fostering an agile, innovative mind focused on expression, communication, and creative thinking.
“I hope to enhance my writing skills and improve my ability to express thoughts with clarity and precision. I want to develop a deeper capacity for analyzing diverse perspectives, which will strengthen my effectiveness as a leader. I also seek to cultivate an agile and innovative mind, honing my abilities in expression, communication, and creative thinking.”
With a Bachelor’s in Management Information Systems from BYU, Joey recognized that the MLA program would elevate both his academic and professional experience. “The chance to learn collaboratively and exchange perspectives in such a rich intellectual environment is inspiring,” says Joey.
When reflecting on the program, his message to future students is: “If you’re passionate about learning and want to challenge yourself intellectually, this program is an incredible opportunity. It’s a chance to engage deeply with timeless ideas, improve your critical thinking and communication skills, and grow alongside a community of like-minded individuals. It’s demanding but incredibly rewarding.”
